Photograph of filamentous fungal strain "Penicillium expansum BS30" found in wastewater sludge. This fungal mycelium is capable of adsorbing and entrapping sludge solids to produce clean water, which renders settling of wastewater sludge solids naturally. This is a green approach, which evades use of chemical (toxic, pollutant and expensive) polymers requirements for wastewater sludge settling.
